TV and industry executives are bemoaning Hulu's popularity, saying it detracts from their revenue. Some executives contend that Hulu's free model is hurting their bottom-line, but CEO Jason Kilar says that is just not true. According to him, Hulu's advertising is set to bring in nearly $500 million this year.
However, executives and some Hulu boardmembers say free access is encouraging people to "cut the cord," which is where a lot of the industry's money comes from. No one seems to note that cable and satellite prices are outrageous and continue to rise. Nor have I seen any references to the numerous "black-outs" that have occurred the last few years, as networks have pulled programming over... wanting more money.
