Teenager Invites 21k to Party on Facebook

A 15-year-old accidentally left the box checked on her birthday party event invite to 15 friends, and 21,000 (several of which were obviously fake profiles, some of which had celebrity names) people RSVP to attend! Though the party was canceled, police stepped-up surveillance in the girl's area, especially after some people posted unsavory comments involving gangrape and insulted the girl.

Though her mother barred her from using the Internet for the foreseeable future, not everyone is blaming the teenager. And though several technology blogs and newspapers picked-up on the story, Facebook has yet to change the way events are handled.

For your clarification, and safety, know that whenever you create an event on Facebook, you need to UNCHECK the box that allows your event to be viewed by everyone. On Facebook -- everyone.
