Microsoft Tag Comes Out of Beta, Free to Use

Microsoft's nascent barcode technology, Tag, is coming out of beta testing and is available to the public for free. With this technology, users can create Tags for anything and embed information within them. The most common use of Microsoft Tags is going to be connecting to a website, though this is far from its only use; tags can also dial phone numbers, display text, and more. According to Microsoft, beta testers have already created more than 1 billion tags - more than 20 million magazines in April alone used the technology.

Tag generators can also create categories for their tags and track them, and pay packages will allow them to offer more features and do more with tags. More information can be found at Microsoft's official Tag site.
