In 2017, I think it is safe to say that almost everything that can be done by a pop music outfit has been done across every genre. Heavy metal can't get much heavier; speed metal is not going to get much faster; modern country music is nigh inseparable from pop; and pop music is turning into electronica. However, few have used a 6 string ukulele.
The Beatles, as well as a handful of popular bands (especially in the Alternative field), have experimented with various instruments, and genres such as Ska and Modern Jazz and Jazz Fusion have included winds and brass, but I do not know of many that use a ukulele. 2017 could be its breakthrough year.
