Aside from the time it takes to master a musical instrument, one of the most prohibitive things people cite is the cost. However, unless you are of a certain personality type, even this excuse can be easily overcome by purchasing a used instrument. As a percussionist, I have not ever bought any high-priced piece brand new due to the high rate of breakage - and I am an awfully good percussionist, so if used instruments are fine by me then they should do well by you.Again, even if you can afford new instruments, there is no reason to buy one until you know how to both play, and care for, them well.
