Nielsen to Measure Roku Ads

Nielsen is working with Roku to develop a method of tracking advertisements streaming through their 10 million set-top boxes. Nielsen has tracked this information for traditional TV outlets for years but, despite the fact that so many Roku channels already serve ads, it has not tracked it for streaming devices. Until now, the demographics for streaming audiences had to be extrapolated from traditional data.

The Nielsen count will be included in the new Roku Ad Framework. According to reports, Roku audiences streamed some 3 billion hours of TV last year. Netflix subscribers reportedly streamed over 10 billion in the first quarter of 2015 alone.
