Twitter purchased e-mail marketing firm RestEngine but has not disclosed its intended use for the service. Speculators suggest it may be used to monetize the social network, or even lure lapsed Twitter users back to the service, but Twitter has made no announcements as to what it plans to do with the company. Twitter has made other purchases over the last year that are equally perplexing to experts, but the company is keeping its holdings and their intended uses close to the vest for now.
RestEngine was just over two years old when it was acquired by Twitter.
