2009 appears to have been the biggest, best, and possibly last year for netbooks. Tablets such as the iPad and its competitors appear to have ousted the inexpensive, stripped-down laptop. Experts and analysts say the desire for such a product was obviously there, as sales of netbooks soared two years ago, but they topped-out and have been in sharp decline since.
Some insist the "there were too many tradeoffs" with the netbook, as it was usually slower than laptops and could not always handle newer software. However, iPads and their imitators lack an actual computer's resources and abilities, nor can they run some of the programs and software available to computer users. They are more attractive and compact, however, and trendier.
