Analysts say cable and satellite TV subscriptions declined in the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2010. Many are blaming online, view-on-demand (VOD) options as the primary cause. However, other experts noted what they refer to as "churn," which is where many new viewers subscribed for the first time following the analogue/digital switchover and have since canceled.
Interestingly, metal and electronic wire sales also fell, suggesting that fewer cable networks are expanding.
