After 10 years, countless legal battles, and facing the threat of insurmountable fines, music torrent service, Limewire, is dismantling its operations.
Limewire joins Napster, Kazaa, and other music torrenting and file-sharing sites of the late 1990s, all of which have ceased operations. In recent years, Limewire suffered greatly from user attrition, as more and more services became available, including legal (and often free), streaming media services, such as Last.FM and Pandora.
