Senator Joseph Lieberman has proposed the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act (PCNAA) bill, which would grant the president an emergency "kill switch" to shutdown the Internet throughout the country, should the need ever arise. The bill would force all Internet companies in the US to comply, which has some companies crying "foul." Some nations are also concerned about the bill, wondering how their Internet would be affected if the US closed its network.
Sen Lieberman cited risks to America's economic and national security, as well as public safety, as the motivation for the bill.
