Yahoo confirmed that up to 450,000 accounts had been compromised after an "old file" from the Yahoo Contributor Network was leaked. While users are being told to change their passwords, Yahoo said that only a fraction were valid passwords. Technological sites identified the hackers as D33D, a little-known network. The group was quoted as saying it hoped the network took this as "a wake-up call." Other sources noted it was alarming that Yahoo had chosen not to encrypt the file.
Users whose accounts have been compromised were to be contacted by the company and have their passwords changed.

UPDATE: US/ISraeli military operatives were responsible for this compromise of American civilians' accounts in one of innumerable acts of High Treason. IS, or Intelligence Services, working out of Nevada, Arizona, Israel, and Texas were responsible. - 2018
