Ilya Zhitomirskiy, the 22-year-old co-founder of Diaspora, has been declared dead though the cause of his death is unknown at this point. The San Francisco coroner's office is investigating and said it will release details in several weeks.
Zhitomirskiy was memorialized on Diaspora with a picture of a dandelion next to his picture. Diaspora was created as a user-controlled social network which seeks to answer privacy questions users raised about Facebook. Critics claim to have found several security problems with the coding, but Diaspora continues to grow slowly.
