ICANN finally approved the top-level domain, .XXX. The .XXX domain is reserved for adult-oriented content, such as pornographic movies and images. At this time though, adult webmasters are not required to register a .xxx domain, regardless of the content their site(s) serves.
One must be approved for a .xxx domain website. The vetting process is approved by the International Foundation for Online Responsibility, and is meant to help weed-out pornographers and criminals engaging in child pornography, human trafficking, prostitution, and other crimes. Established adult sites are not required to change their domain.
The ICM Registry is handling the .XXX domain. They say they have already received over 200,000 pre-registration applications.
