Cutting the cord is a new buzzword phrase that means to cancel your cable/satellite and start streaming your entertainment online. Amazon has recently tried entering the market with a 99¢ per episode plan, but it isn't setting well with TV executives, who say there is far more money to be made in other distribution models.
TV shows can go into reruns for several years in syndication, especially on cable, not to mention the DVD market, where they generate more money than they would online. Studios and networks also lock-in exclusive deals with sites such as Netflix.
