The print phonebook is no more; regulators have given telecommunications firms the greenlight to quit printing phonebooks. The first phonebook was published in 1878 and became a fixture of the 20th-Century American household, but today, there are far more effective and more oft-used methods for looking-up phone numbers. Landlines continue to dwindle at an alarming rate, as well.
The Yellow Pages continues to do well, but the White Pages phonebook directory is going the way of print.
