Verizon and Redbox Enter Streaming Arena

Verizon has announced that it is setting up a joint venture with Coinstar and its company Redbox to provide streaming media to Verizon and non-Verizon customers. The plan has not been detailed, but will bundle DVD rentals with online streaming content. The streaming portion of the plan will not be available until the latter half of 2012.

This is only the latest entry into streaming online content. Walmart, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu and Hulu+, and others are already in the game, and more companies seem to be announcing their entry every day now. A strategic partnership with Redbox could make all the difference in Verizon's plan.

This is probably a good deal for Verizon and Netflix, but with recent poor business decisions, I can't really trust it to be a good product on Netflix's part. I already have a great streaming service through DISH, and Dishonline.com gives me access to thousands of TV shows, movies and clips. I can rent movies, watch it live on my laptop or PC and even manage/watch my DVR. The best part is how easy DISH makes it for me to use. I don't have to worry about random online searches or poor quality content, and it costs nothing extra. Since I began working at DISH I have, time and time again, been satisfied with the quality and quantity of content. This is no different.

I'm not familiar with DISH, but if you work there, you can hardly be considered unbiased, right? Either way, it sounds like a good deal, but still far more expensive than any of the alternatives.
