How Do You Weatherproof a Computer?

After losing four or five computers (I've honestly lost count) to lightning traveling through the phonelines, I have come to some basic conclusions:

This has got to fall back on the phone company somehow, as I never had this problem with dial-up. There is no way to predict every thunderstorm nor to be home or awake for every one of them, so unplugging the modem every time it rains is really not an option.

I have had the internal wiring changed, had the box double-grounded, and now I am looking into buying shielded wire to replace the ones in place now. Does anyone else have any suggestions? I'm broke as hell now and really have no idea what to do if I lose yet another computer.
