Universities and other concerned URL owners are rushing to purchase their .xxx domain names to avoid impersonators and squatters. Most of them intend on sitting on the domains and nothing else; they just want to ensure the pornography industry doesn't exploit them. Kansas spent about $3000 buying-up domain names like KUgirls and KUnurses.XXX.
The .XXX domain is for pornography, and generally pornography only. The new top-level domain was opened back in September. Brands and celebrities were given the opportunity to dissociate their names from the domain for a fee.
