In a letter to subscribers, Netflix president Reed Hastings announced that the company is splitting into two distinct divisions: One for streaming movies and one for DVD-by-mail. The former will remain Netflix, while the DVD home delivery company will now be named Quikster.
Critics quickly pointed-out that former Netflix customers who still subscribed to both streaming and DVD-by-mail services will now have to go through two websites to pay their bills. Others said that Hastings' "apology" amounted to an admittance that DVD-by-mail was simply too costly for Netflix to continue.
Meanwhile, cable and satellite bills still run over $50.00 per month.
