Cutting the Cord - The 99¢ Episode

Cutting the cord is a new buzzword phrase that means to cancel your cable/satellite and start streaming your entertainment online. Amazon has recently tried to enter the market with a 99¢ per episode plan, but it isn't setting well with TV executives, who say there is far more money to be made in other distribution deals.

TV shows can go into reruns for several years in syndication and on cable, as well as the DVD market, where they generate more money than they would online. They also lock-in exclusive deals with sites such as Netflix.
